A Tribute to Max Manning

Open to adults and teens.  Max Manning looked the part of a scholar athlete, a pitcher wearing thick glasses that belied a wicked fastball. He played for the the Newark Eagles & pitched in 25 games in 1940 and went 11-6, but then lost most of three seasons to World War II.  He returned home from the war and continued his winning ways, winning nine and losing one in 1946.  Playing in Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico with his final year spent in Canada before returning with his wife to Pleasantville to finish college and teaching in the Pleasantville School System for over 30 years.  Max Manning's daughter, Belinda Manning, will share artworks that tell the story of her father's life and talk about his legacy in Negro League baseball and the Pleasantville community.  She will share her presentation made before the Society of Baseball Research (SABR):  "The Heart of the Matter" as part of the Build a Better World Speakers Series .
