Event Details

Open to adults and teens.  Join us for a short talk by African American Olympian Mabel "Dolly" Staton.  Staton competed in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Finland, where she set an Olympic record in the preliminaries and was coached by Jesse Owens.  In addition to being an Olympian, Staton was a gold and bronze medal winner in the 1955 Pan American Games, a 4-time US champion in the long jump, and the recipient of various awards and honors including the Rosa Parks Award, NJ Track and Field Lifetime Achievement Award, and being inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame.  Part of "Black History Month at the Pleasantville Branch."
